Freemasons’ Lodges in England and Wales, and in many places overseas are administered by the United Grand Lodge of England through Provinces and Districts; with its headquarters based at Freemasons Hall, Great Queen St., London, WC2B 5AZ.

It is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations being founded on three great principles:

Brotherly Love - tolerance and respect for the opinions of others and an obligation to behave with kindness and understanding to our fellow creatures.

Relief - the practice of charity and giving.

Truth - Freemasons strive for truth, aiming to achieve high standards in their public and private lives.

Members are taught these principles through participation in a progression of allegorical two-part plays, learned by heart and performed within each Lodge. These ritual dramas, which follow ancient forms and use stonemasons’ customs and tools as allegorical guides, instil a moral and ethical approach to life: its values being based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness.

Members are urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount but, importantly, Freemasonry also teaches and practices concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need. Hence, Freemasons are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry without flaunting their association.

Freemasonry is a society where long lasting friendships can be established; where you can find company when travelling almost anywhere in the world; where you can develop your inter-personal skills; where there is a whole world of discovery for those inclined to seek for it - from ancient history to famous Masons.  However, we do urge caution with the sources of some material particularly that which can be found on the internet, and we recommended that you refrain from doing so until you fully join the Fraternity as what you might discover may spoil your enjoyment of your Masonic beginnings.
